An abandoned building always grabs my attention. I can’t help but wonder about the building’s past, people who lived and used the spaces, and the eerie silence left in the wake of human inhabitation.

After this initial reaction I then snap into re-design mode and start to think about its re-use and development: what use should the building be put to; who would visit the building and why; would it work as a home? And so on…

I‘ll keep its location anonymous  – but by the river, close to amenities with good access – you would imagine this building would be prime redevelopment material; it seems not. Any thoughts?

  • Is the building listed? If not should it be?
  • How long before decay makes it a pile of bricks?
  • A restaurant/dining veranda over the river?

Do post your thoughts on this and ways abandoned buildings get the creative ideas flowing.
